So it's two in the A.M. and I'm desperately studying for my makeup exam today, after my first class at nine (which I slept through, go me!).  I've already wasted half the night following the trail of [livejournal.com profile] askerian 's ridiculously contagious zombie!AU, so I need to cram like I've never crammed before.

Naturally, my brain chooses this moment to bombard me with bunnies for a D.Gray-Firefly crossover.

And of course I'm never going to write anything because that's not what I do.  I build and doodle and extrapolate and waste time with tables and charts and diagrams and mathematical bullshit, and I'm pretty solid on what happens with who when where how why, but write a story?  World of not happening.  Consider this a "waaaaangst into the void".  Also possibly a troll.

So, so, I'm easing my way into fanfic again, and going over old files and stirring up old memories (because once I read a fic, even if I only read it once and I hate it, my stupid brain manages to remember every last little detail, filed away in dusty drawers of my memory), I remember this one D.Gray-fic where the girl writing it (it's almost always a girl; so goes the genre) got the idea from her telenovelas.  I think it was called Sorpresando Amor! or something.

And my brain sort of...percolated/curdled/fermented/fiddled with it for a while, and I was remembering in theatre class the vague generic scene-starters for characters 'A' and 'B' with ambiguous age, gender and identity that you were supposed to assign a certain setting (complete with pantomime) and then take it from there.  (Heh, I remember this one time we turned this innocuous script into disposing of a body, and split up the pantomime duties between us--who gets the imaginary blade to dismember it, who gets it into the imaginary plastic bag, who digs the imaginary hole and buries it, who does the imaginary cleanup work, who's in charge of the gear in the imaginary van--good times.)

So...yeah.  Sorpresando Amor! (or whatever it was), in generic script form!  Apply it to whatever fandom you choose.

That's the first one.  There's another.  -_-;;  More tomorrow--I'm out of school, applying for a summer job, have nothing much to do.  My precious darling Hermione (yes, I named my new laptop, and no, it wasn't specifically for the Harry Potter character--awesome as Hermione Jean Granger is, there is precedent of the name in both Shakespeare and Greek history, not to mention the number of possible nicknames referencing the word "mine;" we have technological possession issues in my house) fried right in front of me not three months after buying it off eBay (curse you, eBay! *shakes fist*) and I've been sneaking onto the computer my mother uses when she's looking the other way.  Right now I'm making an effort to catch up on D.Gray-man: rereading ZONE, wtf-ing over chapter 159, going over past notes and compiling new ones.  Still trying to screw my head on straight.  *emo!sigh*

I am officially dead and this is my spectre come back from the grave to...uhhh...meander around doing random shit.

So!  To business.  Around January/February/March Dayadhvam_Triad (hereafter referred to as D_T, as the whole name is far too much effort to type out--Eliot was such a drama queen) got into D.Gray-man, and I promptly hijacked her post fangirling about it.  I'm rereading it, because I'm easily distracted and because I'm still working on a couple responses to those threads.  It's too much goddamn effort to keep it all in the indenting LJ format where eventually the sentence is like

Fandom Report: D.Gray-man on FF.N

Over the 2007-08 holiday break, D.Gray-man ate my soul.

So of course I'm head over heels. ♥  And best of all, the D.Gray-fandom isn't even massive like Harry Potter and Naruto and Inuyasha--there's only a thousand or so stories on the Pit, which means I can go through them all and get an idea of what the fandom's about without missing anything.

Geh, don't have the energy to write any decent intro right now--just, here's the stats.

(Harry Potter is currently at 344,004 stories.  Naruto is at 126,092. Inuyasha lags behind at 78,031.  But WHO CARES about those big bloated depraved fandoms, when I have the world's cutest tinyfandom RIGHT HERE?~ ♥ ♥ ♥)

D.Gray-man has grown to 1464 stories (socute) (that's 59 pages, up 10p or 248s from two months ago!~ ♥)


~Oh, look how much you've grown!~  *pinches D.Gray-fandom's cheeks, squashes to saggy bosom and leaves embarrassing fuschia lipstick marks on its face* ♥ 


Overall, the section has bloomed 22% in just two months, and if it keeps up it'll be a large healthy Pit-section in no time.  ^^  Sotiny~ Socute~ ♥

~So for the last couple months I've been powering through all 299 stories with 5000 words or more (code 5) (I'm ignoring the other 955 or so tinyfic, at least until they're big enough to warrant examination--there are far more phailfic and emo poetry than there are 1337 drabbles), and these are my observations thus far:

On September 4th I started a project to read and review (in a way) every novel-length fic in the most popular Naruto pairing on ff.n. Which means, a lot of yaoi. I suffer for my art. (Yes, OCD is my art.  Because I'm special.)

(BTW, KakaSaku has overtaken KakaIru/etc. as the eighth most popular pairing; between teacher/student and random yaoi pairing, I have to say no comment.)

(Have I posted the Naruto survey on this account yet? I don't think I have. Okay, top ten pairings on ff.n are, from first to tenth: SasuNaru/etc.; SasuSaku; NaruHina; NejiTen; NaruSaku; ItaSasu; SasuHina; KakaSaku; KakaIru/etc.; GaaSaku.)

I went ADD for a month between September 5 and October 8, and went slowly for the rest of the month because of senior year and all, but I finally finished it today~ *feels special* On the fourth there were 37 100K+ worded fics in this section; by today, there were 44. The seven newbies are GCH, FB, MB, ED, N:TNC, and LMMB. These crazy people, they just don't stop. Anywho, fics are arranged in order of publishing date; debatably coherent "review" follows each description. (Asterisks mark the fics on my stalk list, a.k.a. fics I actually care about.) Like so.
