Fandom Report: D.Gray-man on FF.N
Over the 2007-08 holiday break, D.Gray-man ate my soul.
So of course I'm head over heels. ♥ And best of all, the D.Gray-fandom isn't even massive like Harry Potter and Naruto and Inuyasha--there's only a thousand or so stories on the Pit, which means I can go through them all and get an idea of what the fandom's about without missing anything.
Geh, don't have the energy to write any decent intro right now--just, here's the stats.

(Harry Potter is currently at 344,004 stories. Naruto is at 126,092. Inuyasha lags behind at 78,031. But WHO CARES about those big bloated depraved fandoms, when I have the world's cutest tinyfandom RIGHT HERE?~ ♥ ♥ ♥)
D.Gray-man has grown to 1464 stories (socute) (that's 59 pages, up 10p or 248s from two months ago!~ ♥)
~Oh, look how much you've grown!~ *pinches D.Gray-fandom's cheeks, squashes to saggy bosom and leaves embarrassing fuschia lipstick marks on its face* ♥
Overall, the section has bloomed 22% in just two months, and if it keeps up it'll be a large healthy Pit-section in no time. ^^ Sotiny~ Socute~ ♥
~So for the last couple months I've been powering through all 299 stories with 5000 words or more (code 5) (I'm ignoring the other 955 or so tinyfic, at least until they're big enough to warrant examination--there are far more phailfic and emo poetry than there are 1337 drabbles), and these are my observations thus far:

English-language stories have of course been blossoming the most, being that I'm pretty sure the foreign language version of ff.n is on a completely different server; there are 233 new stories! That's 10 more pages~ And right behind are the Spanish-language stories, putting on another 11 fic in two months. There are four new Frenchfic, seven new Portuguese fic, and one more Indonesian fic. Socute~
For the heavy hitting genres: Romance went up 26%; General is up 18%; Humor's up 24%; Angst went up 23%; Drama, up 21%; Adventure, up 19%. In the lesser genres: Friendship exploded 55%, now leading the pack; Tragedy went up 29%, coming in a close second; Family, the former leader, only went up 15%; Hurt/Comfort is up a whopping 40%; the Poetry section more than doubled, from 14s to 29s; Fantasy's up 24%; Supernatural, up 14%; Horror, up 15%; and Mystery is up 25%. Spiritual, as a genre, is dead in the water, with no change since last I checked. Crime is still entirely barren, alongside Western (sad!) and Sci-Fi (sadder!). Someone needs to write an AU sci-fi western, like at least a parody or something. Can't you just see Lavi as 'the drifter in town' or something, observing the clashes between the invading settlers (aliens?) with their sparkly steampunky (or cyberpunky, if you like) technology (Exorcists; Lenalee could be the baby sister of the mayor-dude or something) and the pissed natives (moar aliens?) with their shiny magic (the Noahs'd fit easily; though the Earl is more obviously a bloated parody of a Victorian man, creative license is free...), and Allen's a newcomer hiding his...uhhh...half-native!alien ancestry? C'mon, there's gotta be some enterprising writer-types out there somewhere...or you could do a Firefly crossover...heeere, Joss-Whedon-fans Joss-Whedon-fans Joss-Whedon-fans... *sets out catnip*
The number of K-rated stories went up 11%; K+ is up 28%; T, up 21%; and the pr0n, of course, increased 38% in two months. Ah, fangirls. There's this one crack-induced shortfic that randomly pairs Allen with the Crown Clown... XDDD Oh, I so have to check those out when I'm done with the 5K+ run. Nothing is funnier than tiny fantards taking themselves seriously enough to write smut. (And hey, maybe there'll be something actually well-written...you think?...Naaah.)
The incomplete and completed levels have increased at about the same rate, 23% and 22% respectively; so the D.Gray-man archive retains its unusual balance of about 40% more completed fic than WIP fic.
One of the 60-100K stories from last time finally broke the 100K mark; I'm too lazy to figure out which. Meanwhile, three other stories broke the 60K mark to try and make that bracket less lonely. (It's still the smallest length range.) Another six broke into the 40K novel range; sixteen fic broke the 20K mark, upping the 20-40K count by 29%; the 10-20K bracket grew 37.5%; the 5-10K bracket is up 36%; the 1-5K range, up 19%; and the itty-bitty fic bracket is up 22%. The shortfic (1-5K) range is still the largest.

-KandaAllen is very popular.
-LaviAllen, not quite as much.
-LaviKanda, about the same.
-Lenalee pairings perhaps not as prolific as "Yullen" slash, but still rather common.
-AllenLenalee a little more popular than KandaLenalee. (Hopefully.)
-LaviLenalee striving valiantly not to fall behind. (I believe in you! Do your best!)
-Each hetpairing individually doesn't stand much of a chance against Teh Slash. C'est la fandomme.
-(My fake!French is so sexaaay. 8D)
-There is an inordinate amount of NoahxExorcist fic.
-By "Noah" I mean just Tyki and Road.
